INTRAUTERINE INSEMINATION (IUI)

IUI is a simple technique, less costly, non-invasive, performed on the female, when both the partners are normal, but still unable to bear a child in spite of regular unprotected sexual intercourse.

For maximizing chances of pregnancy, the female partner is advised to take daily one injection for 9 – 10 days beginning from the start of the menstrual cycle. When the mature egg(s) is secreted from the ovary, the male sperm is injected into the uterus by the doctor so that natural fertilization takes place to form the pregnancy. This technic gives no pain or discomfort with virtually no complications and is absolutely safe.

The success rate of this technic is fairly good and can be performed on any woman, regardless of the cause of infertility, including unexplained infertility, so long as her both tubes are normal in structure and function. If however, the first attempt fails, more attempts can be made on the advice of the doctor. Couples with unexplained infertility account for 30 – 40 % of all couples seeking medical advice for their infertility problem.
